Payton and Grace Downing
Tribal Church Planters, New Tribes Missions – en route to Asia Pacific
Before Payton and Grace met, the Lord began to place a burden on their hearts and minds for missions. As they began to look more closely at what Scripture had to say, both of were challenged to pursue missions. As conversations happened and God placed people in their lives at the right time, they were spurred on even further. Their church family and the leaders at ABEFC got behind them and confirmed what they had been praying about.
Payton and Grace decided to spend their first year of marriage in Colorado getting to know the church better and getting to know each other better as well. They chose New Tribes Missions for their training program, which included Bible Training, Specialized Missions Training, and a Linguistics Program.
They are now en route to Asia Pacific where about 260 unique language groups are without the Word of God. The long term goal is to plant a church among one of these people groups who usually live in very remote locations. There are many parts to the ministry; learning an unwritten language, setting up a literacy program, evangelism (teaching from creation to Christ), Bible translation, and long-term teaching and discipleship until the church is able to stand on its own feet. Here’s a more detailed explanation of the Big Picture.
Purpose Statement: To help establish an empowered, reproducing body of believers among an unreached people group.
