Gary & Charlene
Cru - USA
We minister to international university students and visiting scholars. (A visiting scholar is defined as a mid-career professional studying in America for one year from another country, usually in the fields of – lead college professors, CEO of large business, government officials, and doctors.) Our focus it to WIN them to Christ through various means of evangelism; BUILD the believers in the faith so they can reach their peers with the gospel and be strong in their personal faith; SEND believers back into their countries to reach the country with the gospel. We are starting network offices across the country to reach the key Visiting Scholars on every campus.
We work at the University of Washington, ranked number 9 in the nation. Their are 2600 international undergrad/grad students on campus and 1800 Visiting Scholars. (FYI Univ of Colo Boulder is ranked 26 in the nation making it a key university to reach for internation- als) There are 39 colleges in the Seattle Metro area that we are responsible for starting in- ternational student ministry.
Our family is ever growing, we have one daughter, Alisa married with 6 children, oldest son, Bryan married with one child, and three sons Justin, Travis and Steven all still in college, Travis is in the army. We joined the staff of CCC in 1974 and have ministered to college student most of our career and while living in Denver we did church consulting. One of the churches we worked for was Austin Bluffs. Currently I am the Seattle Metro Director for Bridges International. BI is the international division of CCC. Charlene works full time on campus with me and is currently taking classes to learn Chinese.
Areas of Prayer
We have verbal agreement with several universities and hospitals in East Asia and other countries to partner with us to allow us to help their visiting scholars when they arrive in the US. However, we need them to move from a verbal agreement to actually sending us the scholars. Praise – Travis is home from Iraq safe. Pray – We need to quickly finish doing the remodel on our basement so we can rent rooms out to international students. We are the do-it-yourself re-modelers. Pray that others will come help us.
